You tell yourself, “I’ve got to succeed. I have to win. I need to be the best.” But how? Unfortunately, when many people turn to the win-at-all-costs game plan, they turn to dishonesty, deception, fear and many other unwholesome characteristics. How about for you? When success is on the line, how do you act? Are you honest? Kind? Do you treat others well?
Malcolm Forbes, a prominent entrepreneur, once said, “You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him.” To add to that, if you can easily judge a man’s character by how he treats those who can’t do anything for him, how much easier would it be to judge a man’s character based on how he treats those who are helpful and close to him?
No matter how hard work is and how tired you are, do everything you can to be kind to everyone! Even if they aren’t exactly being nice in the first place. There are many things you can do to show a little kindness to your coworkers, family members and even complete strangers. Here are a few suggestions:
Bring donuts for the office. Yes, you might be out a few bucks, but so what? You won’t even remember how much it cost the next day.
Don’t be afraid to cover a few hours or a full shift for someone in need. The good karma will always come back to you eventually.
Always use kind words and be generous with your compliments. Everybody loves being told how good they look today or how well they did on last week’s project. You be the one to say it!
Smile and be happy. It’s contagious!
