Every franchise owner wants to reduce employee turnover. Turnover is stressful, costly and can harm the reputation of your franchise brand. Here are a few tips to keep turnover at bay.
Check in regularly
Don’t just assume your staff is doing fine – ASK them periodically. Support them in their goals, and see if there’s anything you can to help achieve them. Recognize and reward outstanding performance, so your staff knows they’re appreciated. Employees need to feel engaged with the franchise, and know that it cares about them.
Help them move forward
The lack of professional development opportunities is a big factor in employee turnover. Most hourly workers haven’t been able to achieve more than a high school or community college diploma, or perhaps a GED. They’re eager to get the education that will help them move up in the world. Try mentoring sessions, or see if your franchise provides classes or online courses for employees.
Clear the path for success
Just like your employees want to work towards higher positions, they need you to provide a clear path to do that. For instance, show them how they can advance from server to manager and so on.
Turnover is expensive. Any number of surveys will tell you it can cost tens of thousands of dollars to replace even entry-level workers. Be proactive and your franchise will reap the rewards!
