Walt Disney needs no introduction. He’s well known because he didn’t let anything stand in the way of achieving his dreams. He went forward with determination, initiative, and imagination. We can all learn a thing or two from him. In fact, we’d like to share one of his quotes, “All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.”
What is holding you back from going after your dream? Sometimes, it can be the fear of failure, it could also be a lack of planning, or maybe the overall goal just feels too overwhelming to even consider a potential reality. But, we’re here to discuss how you can achieve your dreams (because it is possible).
First, write down your dream. Don’t just let it float in your head. Bring it to life by putting it on paper.
Next, make a plan for how you’ll achieve that goal. Let’s talk about S.M.A.R.T. goals for a minute. This stands for specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. You want to have a specific goal in mind, make it measurable, break down big goals into small goals to make them achievable (it’s a step-by-step process), make them relevant to your overall dream, and set a deadline for yourself to reach these goals.
So, after you’ve written down your ultimate dream, next get specific about the smaller goals you want to reach in order to make it to the big dream. This may require looking over your finances and figuring out how you’ll save up for a dream or if you need to line up a lender. This may also mean creating a business plan. Think about each step you need to take to help you attain your larger goal. Focusing on each step as a single goal with a timeline can help it feel less overwhelming.
If your dream is to one day be your own boss, do some research and talk to experts. For example, a franchise consultant can help you determine if franchising is right for you and even what franchise would fit you best. Ask questions to help you determine your next steps. After you’ve made a plan, taken the steps needed, and done your research, you’ll need to take the leap. Every dream comes with a little risk involved, but you have to be willing to take the jump in order to make it a reality. So, go for it. You’ve done the steps, now it’s time for you to fly. Like Tony Robbins once said, “The only person who is truly holding you back is you. No more excuses. It’s time to change. It’s time to live life at a new level.”
