As a small business or franchise owner, it is well known that a lot of the work you put into your job is hands on. One of those hands-on jobs is cleaning and keeping your establishment presentable. You never want to lose a potential customer because they judged your store’s cleanliness to be sub par. And attention to cleanliness isn’t only for eateries. Any establishment should reflect an owner’s pride in their business – and one very important manifestation of that pride is a clean facility.
With that being said, here are a few important places that need to be cleaned and re-cleaned often so that you never lose a guest or client to something you can control.
Keep the floors clean. The floor is always one of the first things people notice when entering a store. If your carpets are dirty, there is trash on the floor or your floors are sticky because of a spilled drink, people will immediately judge your business to be unclean.
Check on the bathrooms often. If you have public restrooms or restrooms available to clients, this step is a must. Keep restrooms spotless. Otherwise you will be discouraging people from returning to your establishment.
Take out the trash often. For a customer in a restaurant, there is nothing worse than going to throw your trash away and not being able to because the trash is already overflowing. In an office area make sure you and your employees have a place away from clients to eat – and dispose of trash. It’s better to clean often than to let a smell linger around the store or office.
Never lose a customer to a dirty store. This is something that is completely in your control. Keep your store clean and make the best first impression you can.
