Ever heard the saying that every job is a sales job?
What about a professor? A chiropractor? A dentist? What do those jobs have to do with sales? And if their job is somehow related to selling, what is it that they are selling? The answer: Themselves and the services they provide.
If a college student is “sold” on a professor, meaning the student has confidence that the information being taught is correct and a good relationship has been formed between the teacher and student, the student is much more inclined to do the homework, retain the information and recommend the teacher/class to other students. If a chiropractor and dentist do a great job taking care of their patients’ health and also display wonderful customer service, they are going to have many more patients referred to them and loyal people who keep coming back year after year. Without properly selling themselves and their services, chiropractors and dentists will go out of business quicker than they can make any money.
The bottom line is that no matter what business you are in, by effectively selling yourself and your services, you will become more successful and grow quickly. So next time you’re working, make sure you sell yourself!
